About Empowered Teen

Counselling that walked out of the office and into the community.

Founded 2023 · Kampala, Uganda · Led by Ketra Kizito Kisekka-Ntale

Our story

Why Empowered Teen exists

Empowered Teen was started in 2023, during the COVID-19 pandemic, by Ketra Kizito Kisekka-Ntale, a counsellor working with families, children and adults. During those years of lockdowns and disrupted routines, she saw first-hand how much pressure teenagers were carrying — from social media, from constant screen time, from isolation and uncertainty about their own identity and purpose.

Rather than wait for teens to come to her, she made a decision that would define the organisation: take counselling out of the therapy room and into the community — into schools, churches and homes, where teenagers actually are.

What began as informal community sessions has since grown into a structured programme of mentorship, digital skills training and safe-space conversations, anchored by an annual multi-day Convention that now reaches teens aged 10–19 from across Kampala and beyond.
